*According to the NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: BIODIVERSITY ACT 2004 (ACT NO. 10 OF 2004), ALIEN AND INVASIVE SPECIES REGULATIONS, 2014, alien species listed as declared weeds and invaders have been divided into the following categories:

 

Category 1a plants are high-priority emerging species requiring compulsory control. All breeding, growing, moving and selling are banned.

Category 1b plants are widespread invasive species controlled by a management programme.

Category 2 plants are invasive species controlled by area. Can be grown under permit conditions in a demarcated area. All breeding, growing, moving, selling banned without a permit.

Category 3 plants are ornamental and other species that are permitted on a property but may no longer be planted or sold.
